A Colourful Life

What does your art mean? What is the deep seated, raw emotion that you are trying to express? What’s the story behind it?
A controversial statement here: It doesn’t have to mean anything.
I don’t believe that everything in the world needs to make sense. It just IS.
We spend so much of our lives searching for order, to make sense of everything around us. We so desperately want to put everything in a neat box and say – “oh yes, I get it”, and then file it away.
It can be exhausting, processing so much information, categorising it, linking it with other “important data” in our lives. So much so, that we forget the importance of just being. Living in the moment, enjoying the view without analysing it.
So its not about what it means, its about how it makes you feel. What impact does it have on you when you look at it? What emotions does it trigger for you, in that moment? Does it have the power to change your mood, your outlook, or capture your imagination? When you stop to smell the roses, you do need to categorise the fragrance, or do you just enjoy the experience? For me, that is the beauty of abstract art. Its a place or a view to lose yourself in. Its about what makes my heart sing, for no other reason other than it is.
